Torrential Downpour Surprises Josefinos
For those who did not take the national weather service warning earlier this week not to forget the umbrella, they got an unpleasant surprise, as a torrential downpour hit most of the San José area yesterday afternoon.

It felt like the rainy season was already here even though the Instituto Meteorológico Nacional (IMN) says it is weeks away, as the rainy season in the Central Valley is expected by the third week in April, weeks ahead of the traditional mid-May start.

Rebeca Mora, of the IMN, explains that the hto mornings are responsible for the afternoon rain.

"This is nothing new, it is part of the normal process. The same could occur today", said Mora.

No flooding or major problems were reported yesterday, save for temporary power failures in some areas, like Santa Ana, as water soaked transformers causing blackouts of some areas.

The IMN is saying that the official start of the rainy or "green" season will commence between April 16 and 20.
