Canada's women's soccer team has turned its focus to Costa Rica in advance of Sunday's CONCACAF women's Olympic qualification tournament in Juarez, Mexico.

After a 6-0 triumph over Trinidad and Tobago on Wednesday night, a victory Sunday will assure Canada a spot in the semifinals on April 9.

"The Olympic Games campaign started with a quite comfortable win against a skillful and quick, but somewhat disorganized Trinidad and Tobago team," Canadian coach Even Pellerud said.

"The win could easily have been much bigger, as we created an extraordinary high number of goal-scoring opportunities. That said, our opponent had some very fast and skillful strikers and they challenged our back four at times."

Canada dominated the game from the opening kickoff and got goals from Melissa Tancredi, Jonelle Filigno, Kara Lang, Randee Hermus, Jodi-Ann Robinson and Christine Sinclair.

"The six goals were evenly spread on the two halves and between six different players," Pellerud said. "I hope that gives a number of athletes the confidence they need going into harder battles later in this tournament."

In other action Wednesday night, Mexico romped 8-1 over Jamaica. Friday night Costa Rica will play Trinidad Tobago in one match and the No. 1-ranked United States meets Jamaica in the other contest.

The top two teams in each group qualify for the semifinals. Both semifinal winners earn berths in the Olympics.
