Higher Electricity Rates On the Way
Carolina Mora, spokesperson for the Autoridad Reguladora de los Servicios Públicos (Aresep) - regulator of public prices and services - says that the authority is studying the proposal to increase electrical rates based on consumption.

When and not if approved, customers who consumer more electrical energy will pay more her kilowatt hour.

Mora explained that customers who consume less than 200 kilowatt hours of electricity will pay one rate; higher for those consuming between 200 and 300 kilowatt hours; and, even higher for those consuming more than 300 kilowatt hours.

The Aresep decision on the new rate model could come as early as today or as late as Monday.

"The adjustment model is almost ready, the decision process is in its late stage. The proposal submitted by ICE is too high and that is the reason we are analyzing our decision very carefully", said Mora.

When approved, the first increase can start to be felt on April 15.
