Panama vs. High Cost of Living
The National Front for the Defense of Social Rights (FRENADESO) called for a rally in this capital Thursday against the high cost of living and to demand other popular recoveries.

FRENADESO director Saul Mendez stated the protest will also be against the sale of rivers, beaches and islands, rising energy prices, and reject a free trade agreement with United States.

"It is not possible they are auctioning off our rivers, beaches and islands, and we have realized they have sold to drug traffickers," said Mendez.

The leader of the powerful Single Construction and Similar Trade Union added that it is not also possible to increase indiscriminately the price of rice, electricity and gasoline.

The call to protest coincides with the publication of the recent rate of the basic food price, which reached $226 in August, against $206 in the same month of the last year.
