Honduran President to US
on Immigrant Fix
Honduran President
Manuel Zelaya will
travel to US with an
agenda in favor of his
deported fellow citizens
and also will tackle
issues of bilateral
interest dealing with
security and
investments.
The presidential House
reported the Honduran
dignitary will meet
Secretary of State
Condoleezza Rice and
later will be received
by John Negroponte,
Washington ex ambassador
in the Central American
nation.
The leader has also
foreseen a meeting with
Stephen Hadley,
President George W.
Bush's National Security
Advisor and several US
congressmen to whom he
will give his point of
view on legalizing his
country's migrants.
Zelaya will go with his
foreign minister Milton
Jimenez and his private
secretary Jose Raul
Valladares and ask for a
deportations moratorium
or more selectivity in
the process, affirm
Honduras Foreign
Relations Minister last
week.
The US has expelled over
15 thousand Honduran
citizens so far this
year and if the tendency
remains the figure will
reach 40 thousand by the
end of 2007, reported
