Former President Rodriguez Forced To Cancel His Speech Due to Protests
Former president, Miguel Ángel Rodríguez (1998-2002), had to walk away from a speech he was giving at the Universidad de Costa Rica (UCR),, when seven students interrupted him with insults and demanding he leave the Ciencias Sociales auditorium.

Rodríguez, who is under investigation for taking bribes in the ICE-Alcatel scandal while in office, was giving a speech on International Governing as part of a workshop organized by the Asociación de Estudiantes de Administración Pública de la UCR.

The former president has been involved with the program for the Facultad de Ciencias Económicas (Economic Sciences faculty) for the last one and half years, following his brief sting behind bars under preventive detention and house arrest.

Rodríguez is now free on bail waiting his day in court.

The seven students entered the classroom shortly after 10:00am and began complaining on the presence of Rodríguez in the classroom. The former president remained seated while organizers and UCR security agents argued with the seven, three of which were removed from the auditorium in handcuffs.

Rodríguez tried to continue with his presentation, however, left minutes later.
