Five Months
Overdue And Still No Train To Heredia
Last August the president of the Instituto
Costarricense de Ferrocarriles (Incofer),
Miguel Carabaguíaz, promised that the
Heredia commuter train would be running by
December, at the latest. It is now five
months past December and the train is still
not running.
And worse yet, there is no date when the
train that will take passengers from the
Estacion del Pacifico, east of the Parque
Nacional, to Heredia. Carabaguíaz said on
Saturday that a start date will be announced
by the end of the month.
The railway president explained that they
are in the process of outfitting the train
cars for use by the handicapped and are in
the process of testing the train car
connections and operations.
However, testing on the locomotives brought
in from Spain has still not been done.
The train ride will cost ¢350, the only
thing that is definite and expected to
alleviate traffic congestion that is common
during morning and afternoon rush hours
between Santo Domingo de Heredia and San
Jose.
