San Jose
Airport Terminal Completion Has Begun
Although it has yet to receive the "thumbs
up", Houston Airport System Development
Corporation (HASDC), has started work on the
completion of the Juan Santamaría (San Jose)
airport.
HASDC is expected to take over the
management and completion of construction of
the San Jose airport, taking over from
Alterra Partners. However, the transfer has
been bogged down in approval process, mainly
in the amendment of the contract to replace
Alterra.
Karla González, ministra de Obras Públicas y
Transportes, explained that Hasdc is using
its own money to complete work, completing
the work that was the responsibility of
Alterra.
"It is a risk they are assuming", said the
Transportes minister.
Hasdc is still waiting approval from the
Contraloría General de la República (CGR) to
take over the project. The Consejo Técnico
de Aviación Civil (CTAC) approved the
modifications last year.
The CGR approval is expected by the end of
this month.
The work that is being carried out by HASDC
is to complete the construction of the
terminal, work that has been idle for
several years.
During the weekend, workers were busy
installing the metal structure of the roof.
The material used in the construction had
been in storage on the east side of the
airport for months, Alterra taking delivery,
but not having the funds to complete the
installation.
