Colombia Protests Paralyze Bogota
Bogota - Several main streets
of the Colombian capital were blocked
Tuesday morning by thousands of taxi drivers
to protest the insecurity affecting the
trade union.
The interruptions were present in more than
20 points in the capital, including
intersections with high traffic, public
system terminal stations and others.
The murder of a driver and the injury to a
conductor this morning triggered the protest
of the whole sector, demanding better
security in the streets of Bogota.
Commander of the Metropolitan Police, Gen.
Rodolfo Palomino, called on people to be
calm and admitted the city was entirely
collapsed.
Bogota has nearly 50,000 registered taxis,
with drivers exposed to holdups and
homicides regularly. |
