Brazil Maintains Flu Alert

Brasilia - Brazil President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva assured his government will continue to strictly follow the orientations of the World Health Organization over influenza virus A (H1N1).

Prevention actions will continue in airports, Lula said during a press conference and added that he is being informed about the four confirmed cases recently detected in the country, which pose no infection risk for other people.

There was no chance of transfer of influenza virus infection, which is good news since the four cases are controlled, they were infected in other country and are already in good health condition.

Health Minister Jose Gomes Temporao confirmed Thursday the first four cases in Brazil, two in Sao Paulo, one in Minas Gerais and one in Rio de Janeiro, the first three are already discharged, the one from Rio is isolated until 10 days after infection.

There are other 15 suspect cases and some 93 possible cases of influenza virus that have already been ruled out Thursday.

Temporao assured Brazilians must remain calm and trust the rapid response of Brazil health authorities.
