First Case of H1N1 Virus in Panama

Panama - Panamanian health authorities confirmed on Friday the first case of A/H1N1 flu after screening nearly three dozen people who had the symptoms of the disease.

Health Minister Rosario Turner said that they decided to inform about the first person infected with the virus after the analysis of samples at the Gorgas Commemorative Institute.

It is a young patient who arrived in a flight from the United States. He has been isolated at home and he and his family started the relevant treatment.

Turner said 5,000 doses of the drug contributed by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) to fight this strain of the flu have been distributed, with careful watch and preventive measures implemented in ports, airports and border crossings.
