Post Conflict Event in Colombia
Cartagena, Colombia - With
participation of delegates from 46
countries, the First Congress on
Disarmament, Demobilization and
Reintegration is beginning Monday in this
capital, to exchange experiences on
post-conflict processes.
The event, to be opened by Vice-president
Francisco Santos, will take place at the
Julio Cesar Turbay Ayala Conference Center,
in Cartagena, department of Bolivar.
Participants in the forum will analyze the
impact of extra-legal armed groups.
According to organizers, the aim of the
debate is reintegration based on communities
as the most feasible way to guarantee long
term success of the social and economic
return of demobilized people.
Delegates will also share criteria on recent
peaceful processes currently applied in 24
countries, and analyze achievements, scopes
and results of the conflicting forces,
victims and state assistance to them.
The role of the government, international
community and civil society, within
peacekeeping actions, reconciliation and
reintegration to society are also on the
table of the debate.
The event will end May 6 with the drawing up
of the document "Cartagena Contribution to
Disarmament, Demobilization and
Reintegration."
