BikeHike Adventures is highlighting their
signature Coast to Coast Adventure
Challenge: 15 days biking, hiking and
rafting from the Pacific to the Caribbean,
solely by muscle power. The expedition runs
on a monthly basis with its next trip
scheduled for March 7-21.
The goal is to tackle 235 km (150 miles) of
rugged mountain ranges, deep valleys and
rushing rivers by mountain bike, raft and
foot. The route links a series of twisting
trails, back roads and whitewater rivers
from the Pacific Coast, over the Continental
Divide and onwards to the Caribbean shores.
BikeHike supplies all the equipment
consisting of 24-speed Trek mountain bikes
with front suspension, six-person rafts and
comfortable camping gear for the few nights
below the stars. Of the 15 day trip, 4
nights are camping and the remainder are in
comfortable 3-star family-run boutique
hotels. The trip is physical, but anyone in
reasonably good shape should enjoy the
balance of exercise and relaxation.
A support vehicle follows the group closely
carrying all the equipment, tools and food
necessary for a well-fed, hassle-free
adventure.
The trip is open to active adventurers with
prior biking and rafting experience, but
also to those without who have a keen desire
to learn. Veteran wilderness guides will
escort the group providing expertise and
instruction for people who want to fine-tune
their outdoor adventure skills. For two
years in a row, BikeHike Adventures has been
recognized as one of "THE BEST ADVENTURE
TRAVEL COMPANIES ON EARTH" by National
Geographic Adventure Magazine.
The adventure starts and concludes in San
Jose, Costa Rica and space is limited to 12
travellers. Land cost of the trip is US
$2599 and includes: all equipment, most
meals, all accommodation, support vehicle,
veteran guides, one domestic flight and
airport transfers.
