Strong Earthquake Hits Offshore South of
Panama
Panama - An
earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter
scale rocked the seabed 340 km south of
Panama Thursday, local media reported,
citing the U.S. Geological Survey.
The quake struck at 2323 GMT and its
epicenter was 10 km below the Pacific Ocean,
the report said.
No tsunami warnings were issued and there
were no immediate reports of injuries or
damage in Panama.
The quake was felt in Chiriqui province of
southwestern Panama and in southeastern
Costa Rica, but not in Panama City.
Two earthquakes, measuring 5.7 and 5.9 on
the Richter scale, occurred on the Costa
Rica-Panama border on Wednesday.
The quakes caused panic as well as power and
telecommunications disruptions in some
regions, but didn't result in casualties or
property damage.
