Residents Try To Force Transvestites From Their Area

A group of irate residents of Plaza Víquez, on the south side of San Jose, decided to take to streets Saturday morning to protest the proliferation of transvestites on the streets at night.

The residents say that they are tired of the group of man/woman who operate in front of their houses, every night, trolling for customers.

The residents are demanding that the transvestites relocate and are pressuring authorities for action.

The group said that, with police help, they will patrol the streets and harass the transvestites until the decide to leave the area, suggesting giving the problem to the residents of Heredia.

The area of Plaza Víquez is well known for the nightly activities, as there are a number of 'gay' clubs and bars in the area.

transvestites had been a problem in the downtown core of San Jose, especially along Avenida 1 and Calle 3 to 7. However, they moved their activities to the north side, in Barrio Amon, where they tend to keep to a low profile, and the south side, primarily in the area of Plaza Víquez.
