Ruling Party Wins Andean Parliamentary Elections
Quito – Ecuador's ruling party
Proud and Sovereign Fatherland (PAIS) won the
parliamentary elections held on June 14, authorities
said on Tuesday.
The Ecuadorian National Electoral Council (CNE) said
on Tuesday that according to the final counting,
PAIS got 2,379,538 votes, accounting for 45 percent
of the total, followed by the opposition Patriotic
Society Party (PSP) with 712,863 votes or 13.48
percent.
The Christian Socialist Party won the third place
with 616,513 votes or 11.66 percent of the vote.
CNE President Omar Simon said that after finishing
the counting, the Council opened a 24-hour period
for impugnment.
After that time, the CNE will announce the official
results, which probably will come this week, Simon
added.
During the elections on June 14, some 10.5 million
Ecuadorians were registered to choose five Andean
parliamentarians and 3,985 members of the rural
parish boards across the country. |
