El Salvador Prioritizes Children
San Salvador - El Salvador Education
Ministry is delivering uniforms, shoes and
school instruments (pens, pencils, books,
rulers, etc) to over one million children as
part of the social policy undertaken by the
new government.
With a cost of over 50 million dollars, the
program will benefit about 1.4 million
children, noted the Republic Vice President
and Education Minister, Salvador Sanchez
Ceren.
Another 7 million dollars will be invested
to step up a diet for 500,000 children in
urban areas a modest but valuable step
against the extreme poverty that a large
part of the population is suffering.
Until now 60 percent of the funds are
guaranteed and authorities are looking for
the rest, noted the Minister.
President Mauricio Funes announced the
implementation of a School Protection Plan
to safeguard students and teachers from the
constant risk of drug and alcohol sales in
the areas close to educational
establishments.
