Argentina Praises PL Significance

Buenos Aires - Latina has written glorious pages throughout its 50 years, chiefly in the battle for truth and objectivity, Cuban ambassador in Argentina Aramis Fuente stated.

In an act at the Haroldo Conti Cooperation Cultural Center marking the news agency's 50th anniversary, the diplomat said PL has been a decisive factor in making known the profoundly human essence of the Cuban Revolution.

Its founder Argentine Jorge Ricardo Masetti established Marti's principles of truth as a norm, and being "objective but not impartial" was the golden rule for journalists to face the monopoly of the large US news agencies at the time, which imposed their vision of the world, Fuente noted.

PL emerged by the time the newly-born revolutionary government was carrying out Operation Truth to unmask the series of crimes against justice, he recalled.

Today it is necessary to continue with a similar objective, to unveil actions like the US Supreme Court's refusal to review the case of the five Cuban anti-terrorists imprisoned in the US for trying to avoid Miami-plotted terror actions against Cuba, the ambassador sustained.

Amid the mainstream media's silence over that injustice, Prensa Latina is key in the battle for truth and ideas.
