Ortega for ALBA-Solidarity Account
Managua - Nicaraguan president, Daniel
Ortega, announced the creation of a new
ALBA-Solidarity Account in answer to the
United States government withdrawing aid for
his government for the Millennium Challenge
Account.
ALBA is a regional integration agreement
called the Bolivarian Alternative for the
Peoples of Our America.
Today, he said, the United States cannot do
what it wants in the world and has lost
moral authority although it has material
strength.
He called on the US president to understand
that Nicaraguans are a people with infinite
dignity that only want fair and respectful
relations.
Addressing thousands of compatriots who
shouted Daniel, the people respect you, the
president described the history of
aggressions of the northern neighbors since
the time of filibuster William Walker to the
war of aggression imposed during the 1980s.
He also referred to the attacks against
Sandinista leaders and threats against the
country when the person in power was not of
Washington's liking.
He warned that they are interfering in our
internal policy and explained that we are
gathering proof of the actions of its
officials and, at the right time, will take
whatever action se must in these cases.
The Nicaraguan president denied fraud in the
municipal elections of November 2008 and
criticized local politicians who traveled to
Washington requesting a suspension of the
Millennium Challenge Account whose funds
were not administered by the government but
by the US officials themselves.
For the United States and its allies it is
not easy to swallow the results of a popular
victory and they want to convert the result
into an instrument to destabilize the
country, he indicated.
Applauded by thousands of compatriots who
unfurled Nicaraguan, Venezuelan and Frente
Sandinista flags, Ortega pointed out that
Washington does not give charity or bear
gifts.
This is, he explained, repayment of a
historical debt it has with Nicaragua.
He recalled the decision of the
International Court of Justice in July of
1986 decreeing that the United States should
compensate Managua for damages during the
war of aggression.
We are going to demand they honor that
decision whose fulfillment will grant the
country about 17 billion dollars, he added. |
