Effects Of
Removal Of Vehicular Restrictions of San
Jose To Be Felt Beginning Today
Although the Policia de Transito stopped
ticketing drivers for violating the
vehicular restrictions of San Jose on
Friday, the real effect will be felt today,
as no vehicles are restricted any longer
from circulating the downtown core of San
Jose.
On Friday the Sala IV (Constitutional Court)
ruled in favour of an appeal against the
vehicular restrictions, filed by the former
director of the Organismo de Investigación
Judicial (OIJ), Rafael Ángel Guillén.
The court said that the restictions that
were applied from Monday to Friday, from 7am
to 7pm, was unconstitutional and impeded the
free transit on public roads.
The ministra de Obras Públicas y Transportes,
Karla González, issued the order to suspend
all ticketing on Friday.
However, many drivers were not aware of the
removal of the restrictions and kept they
vehicles ending in plates "9" and "0" on
home on Friday.
Traffic today, Monday, is expected to be
worse than ever as those with plates ending
in "1" and "2" or 20% of the vehicular
fleet, which includes small and large
trucks, can now use their vehicles in the
downtown core.
