Solidarity with Cuba in Brazil

Florianopolis, Brazil -  The 17th National Convention of Solidarity with Cuba in Brazil begins its working sessions Thursday, with the presentation of reports by the different associations supporting the island.

Today's session also includes the conference Cuba: 50 years of Victory, by Gen. Harry Villegas (Pombo), member of the Association of Cuban Combatants, and survivor of the Ernesto Che Guevara Guerrilla in Bolivia.

During the convention's inauguration last night at the headquarters of the Florianopolis Legislative Assembly, the over 200 participants greeted the 50 years of the Cuban Revolution, and reiterated their support for the island.

When welcoming the delegates, Edison Fuente, president of the Jose Marti Cultural Association in Santa Catarina, venue of the event, affirmed it is an honor for them to celebrate the 50 years of the Cuban revolutionary process, which continues being a symbol for all the peoples.

He reiterated Brazilian support for the Cuban people's battle against the nearly 50-year-old US blockade, and for the release of the five Cuban anti-terrorists unfairly imprisoned in the US.

The Convention will close Saturday with the selection of the coming venue and the approval of resolutions paving the way for the work until the next meeting.
