Discuss Public Works Partnership, Concession

The governments of Chile and Costa Rica will
sign an agreement to exchange knowledge and
expertise in public works investments,
especially state concessions to the private
sector, Chile's public works ministry (MOP)
reported in a release.
The agreement "will attract private
investment" to modernize Costa Rica's
infrastructure, according to MOP's
undersecretary Juan Eduardo Saldivia.
The letter of intent was signed in Costa
Rican capital San José by Saldivia and the
local deputy public works and transport (MOPT)
minister, Rosaura Montero.
Chilean authorities presented the country's
experience in public-private partnerships in
infrastructure projects and showed how the
concessions system attracts private
investment to modernize infrastructure,
allowing the state to concentrate on
developing social programs.
Saldivia also met with Costa Rican finance
and planning ministry officials, as well as
representatives from the local chamber of
construction and other national associations
to discuss the Chilean concessions system.
