Guatemala New Social Program

Guatemalan President Alvaro Colom
inaugurated Thursday one more social program
of his administration, entitled "Escuelas
Seguras" (Safe Schools), aimed at avoiding
violent acts in schools.
This new program, besides offering security,
is directly addressed to supporting the
students, and its work is directly linked to
the one before entitled "Mi Familia Aprende"
(My family Learns).
The new schools will include video-cameras,
a direct line to denounce criminal
activities, and a special team from the
National Civilian Police dedicated to their
safety.
The official opening ceremony to announce
this program included a ceremony at Plaza
Central, in front of the National Palace of
Culture of Guatemala. |
