Santa Ana Residents Get Promise of
New Pedestrian Overpass
The residents of Santa Ana were able
to obtain a commitment from the
Ministerio de Obras Públicas y
Transportes (MOPT) for a pedestrian
overpass on the autopista Próspero
Fernández in front of the Forum
business park.
The residents had taken to the
streets on Monday, protesting the
changes as a result of the
reconstruction of the highway,
mainly the relocation of bus stops
and the construction of a pedestrian
overpass some 300 metres to the east
of the current stop and farther from
the Forum, one of the major
developments of the areas with a
high number of users of bus
services.
The ministra of the MOPT, Karla
Gonzalez, told the residents that
she sent instructions to the Consejo
Nacional de Vialidad (Conavi) to
find in their budget the money
necessaty to build the overpass.
The ministra also committed to the
completion of the expandion of the
Pozos underpass, a major connection
between the two parts of Pozos, but
warned that the work would mean the
expropriation of some lands adjacent
to the tunnel.
As to the toll charges at the
Piedades (Santa Ana) toll station,
the ministra was clear that the
charging of tolls is a legal matter
and that residents should resort to
taking legal action if they are not
in conformity with the toll charges
that are yet to be applied.
