Honduran
Interim President Not Invited To Regional
Summit In Costa Rica
The de fact president of Honduras, Roberto
Micheletti, has not been invited to the
Meeting of Heads of State that will take
place in Tamarindo from July 27 to 29. The
exclusion of Micheletti was confirmed by
Costa Rica's foreign minister, Bruno Stagno.
The XI Cumbre del Mecanismo de Diálogo y
Concertación de Tuxtla (XI Summit of the
Mechanism for Dialogue and Tuxtla) is made
up of Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador,
Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama,
Mexico and the Dominican Republic, there
only an observer.
Stagno said that the invitation was sent out
to all the heads of state, including Manuel
Zelaya Rosales, the deposed president of
Honduras.
"We hope he (Zelaya) can attend", said
Stagno.
Stagno explained that the invitations went
our in advance of the June 28 coup d'etat in
Honduras.
The summit is an open discussion on battling
security in the region, organized crime and
a join action to face the AH1N1 pandemic, as
well as the world financial and economic
crisis.
Zelaya has yet to confirm his attendance,
according to Stagno.
