Venezuela: 18,000 Disabled People to Classes

Caracas - A total of 18,000 Venezuelan disabled citizens will be included into the national education system in September, thanks to the opening of 1,104 classrooms, said the Venezuelan Education Ministry Tuesday.

Classrooms are constructed by the Venezuelan Education Ministry together with the Ministry of Public Health and Social Protection.

This is one of the results given by the Jose Gregorio Hernandez Mission, with the participation of Cuban experts.

Venezuelan Education Vice Minister Edgar Leon delivered some resources for the special education system at the municiplaity of Uracoa, state of Monagas.

The Jose Gregorio Hernandez Mission made possible the identification of 336,000 disabled people in the entire nation.

Of that total, almost 22,000 were not taken care by the school system. Now, 4,000 people were incorporated and the rest will be incorporated in the 2009-2010 school course.

Leon said that population is between 5 and 19 years of age. The resources were given by Petroleos de Venezuela (PVDSA) and the Ministry of Education.
