PAC Offers
Training Course For Potential Legislators
The 207 hopefuls looking to make it to the
Cuesta de Mora as legislators for the
Partido Acción Ciudadana (PAC) in the
February 2010 elections began training
classes. The "escuelita" provides courses on
political and social issues.
Ronny Barboza of the PAC, explained that the
training course is in three parts, held over
three weekends, which will include
discussion on party policies and philosophy,
as well as touch on subject that include
economic and environmental developments and
concerns.
The hopefuls must pass the training course
to be able to run for a legislative seat for
the PAC party, where a maximum of 57
legislative seats or "curuls" are available
for election.
The PAC began the "opposition" party in the
2006 elections, taking over the role of the
mainstream PUSC party that alternated the
position with the PLN, currently ruling
party.
Of the 207 hopefuls, the chosen 57 will then
continue to the next level of training that
includes leadership, campaign strategy and
then on to the third stage that actually
deals with the legislative rules and
procedures, explained Barboza.
The training course costs ¢150.000 colones.
