Zelaya Confirms His Return to Honduras On
Sunday
Deposed Honduran president, Manuel
Zelaya, confirmed that he will be arriving
in Honduras on Sunday, accompanied by Latin
American leaders and asked Hondurans to
greet him at the Tegucugalpa international
airport.
Rafael Correa, president of Ecuador,
confirmed that he will be accompanying
Zelaya on his return to Honduras, a week
after being woken from bed by the Honduran
military and flown to Costa Rica in his
pyjamas.
Argentine President Cristina Fernandez de
Kirchner has also said that she will
accompany Zelaya, on Sunday.
"I am organizing my return to Honduras. I
ask all campesinos, housewives, the
indigenous, all the people, the young, the
workers groups, businessmen and political
friends... to accompany me", said Zelaya in
a recording sent over the internet by
Telesur news in Venezuela.
The deposed president asked his followers to
receive him unarmed. "Let them (the gopistas)
be the ones with arms, to bring violence and
repression". Zelaya asked his followers to
follow his preachings of no violence.
The archbishop of Tegucigalpa, cardinal
Oscar Andrés Rodríguez, fearing violence,
asked Zelaya not to return. "Not one
Honduran has yet to die", saying on Honduran
and radio and television, adding that he
fears the spilling of blood and violence if
Zelaya returns.
The interim president, Roberto Micheletti,
has rejected the Organization of American
States (OAS) to heed to international
demands to reinstate Zelaya as the rightful
president of Honduras.
Micheletti rejected the request by OAS
secretary general, José Miguel Insulza, and
answered by decided that Honduras separate
from the OAS membership.
