BCR Closes 2008 With 12.7% Profit
While banks in the US and other parts of the world are hurting from the financial crisis, some close to bankruptcy, the Banco de Costa Rica (BCR) is reporting a profit of 12.% or ˘34 billion colones for 2008.

Mario Rivera, general manager of the BCR, made the announcement yesterday, adding that ˘7 billion will go towards paying income tax, another ˘1.7 billion will be donated to the Comisión Nacional de Emergencia and ˘2.4 billon to the Comisión Nacional de Préstamos para la Educación (CONAPE) and ˘3.6 billion to the Instituto Nacional de Fomento Cooperativo (Infocoop).
