Government Effort To
Build 500 Homes
Business and government
will be joining forces
to build some 500 homes
by the end of the year
for those affected by
the January 8
earthquake, were 341
homes were totaled and
hundreds more severely
damaged.
Roberto Artavia, a
businessman, was chosen
by the government of
Oscar Arias to leave the
Comisión de Enlace, that
is charge of channeling
government funds and
donations to the
affected.
"We have designed at the
request of the
government 500 permanent
homes. What worries us
is the delays in the
government purchasing
the lands, getting
caught up in
bureaucracy, however,
the private sector is
eager to move ahead with
the initiative", said
Artavia.
The co-operation between
government and the
private sector is based
on the government
supplying the land and
private business
constructing the homes.
The idea of the Cámara
de la Construcción is to
negotiate a good price
for prefabricated homes
that can withstand
seismic movements.
Artavia added that
donations for the
construction of homes
are still be accepted
and it can be in the
form of cash or a square
metre of land.
