Tremors Subside
But We Must Not Lower
Our Guard
Although the tremors and
aftershocks have
diminished over the past
couple of days, the Observatorio
Vulcanológico y
Sismológico de Costa
Rica (OVSICORI) and the
Comisión Nacional de
Emergencias (CNE) are
asking people not to let
down their guard, there
is still risk of more
land and muslides and
strong tremors.
The OVSICORI reports
only a small number of
tremors on Saturday, all
below 2.8 on the Richter
Scale and felt only in
the areas of Cinchona,
epicentre of the
devastating January 8
quake in, Vara Blanca
and San Miguel.
Yesterday's tremors are
pale compared to the
tremors and aftershocks
that rocked the area all
week, some as high as
4.3. Thursday was the
biggest day with 10
quakes within hours,
most felt in the Central
Valley, with the
strongest registering
4.1.
Experts say the cause of
all the tremors is
centred on the local
fault line that
practically destroyed
Cinchona.
Juan Segura, director of
the OVSICORI explained
that the tremors are
expected to continue for
some time and people
should not let down
