Republic Plan and the
National Electoral
Council (CNE) are
working on the
protection and logistics
for a referendum to
allow the continuous
re-election of public
posts.
General Major Jesus
Gregorio Gonzalez, chief
of the Operational
Strategic Command of the
Bolivarian National
Armed Force, and CNE
president Tibisay Lucena,
are to meet Thursday for
such purpose.
Both executives will
have the first meeting
on logistic and
operational aspects,
after most of the
National Assembly
approved the
constitutional amendment
proposal.
Deputies debated in a
special session
Wednesday the
initiative, approved in
first reading on
December 18.
This project will be
delivered to the
National Electoral
Council Friday, and that
entity will have 30 days
to call a referendum.
The request, initially
to allow the continuous
postulation of the Head
of State, was extended
two weeks ago to
governors, mayors,
deputies and regional
legislators.
The aim of the proposal
is to eliminate from the
Constitution the
limitation the head of
State has of being
postulated twice for his
post and those existing
on the time for
governors, mayors,
deputies and regional
legislators. |
