Presidents to Analyze
World Crisis
Managua - Five Central
American presidents will
analyze the world
economic crisis during
the 34th Summit of the
Central American
Integration System (SICA),
which opens here today.
The meeting will be
attended by Presidents
Alvaro Colon
(Guatemala), Manuel
Zelaya (Honduras),
Antonio Saca (El
Salvador), Martin
Torrijos (Panama) and
Daniel Ortega
(Nicaragua).
Also present at the
meeting will be Foreign
Ministers Carlos Morales
Troncoso (Dominican
Republic) and Bruno
Stagno (Costa Rica) on
behalf of their
presidents.
According to sources
close to the meeting,
Nicaragua will present a
broad agenda that will
include the
international financial
crisis and the energy,
food and environmental
crises, among other
pressing problems
affecting the region.
For the first time,
Nicaragua will hold
SICA's pro tempore
presidency for the next
six months.
On Thursday, Nicaraguan
authorities are expected
to sign a free trade
agreement with Panama,
whose technical revision
was completed by
officials from the two
countries. |
