Gringo Who Killed
Doctor To Continue in
Preventive Detention
Frederick Norman Kelch,
the 48 year old American
who killed a doctor
after firing rounds into
the air will be spending
another six months in
preventive detention,
according to a judge of
the Juzgado Penal de
Goicoechea.
Kelch had been firing
shots from his M-16
rifle into the air last
May 23, 2008, when one
of the stray bullets
killed doctor Harlen
Diederich Fonseca Reyes,
while sitting in the
kitchen of a
neighbouring apartment.
The American climbed the
roof of his home in
Moravia believing that
the Central Intelligence
Agency (CIA) was after
him and using satellites
to spy on him to have
him killed.
One of the shots fired
by Kelch into air went
through a window of his
neighbours apartment,
hitting Reyes in the
head while sitting down
at dinner.
It took eight hours of
negotiations to get
Kelch to surrent to
authorities. Teams of
investigators from the
Organismo de
Investigación Judicial (OIJ)
and the Dirección de
Inteligencia y Seguridad
(DIS), negotiated with
the man barraced in his
home, finally convincing
him to give himself up.
One of the demands of
the American before he
would give up was an
armoured vehicle, which
authorities refused to
grant.
