Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da
Silva said on Tuesday the good results
registered in the country's main economic
indicators showed that Brazil would be able
to overcome the international financial
crisis in an "extraordinary manner."
"I am optimistic. I keep on being
optimistic, thinking that Brazil will leave
this crisis in an extraordinary manner,"
Lula said during a visit to Manaus, in
northern Amazonas state.
Lula said he was keeping a close watch to
the effects of the crisis in the
international market.
While admitting that Brazil's future
scenario still depended, at least partially,
on other countries' economic situation, Lula
said he expected Brazil to be in a more
comfortable position by the end of this
year.
Additionally, the effects of several
measures taken by the government to boost
the automotive and construction sectors had
already started to show, he said.
"I think the Brazilian people have no reason
to be afraid," he said. "Considering
Brazil's figures, I think the worst has
already gone by."
