Reflect Before Voting
Quito - Ecuadorians began on Friday a
48-hour period of reflection prior to the
Sunday vote, in which the country will elect
about 6,000 public posts. This phase
prohibits any propaganda campaign, including
advertising on television and radio, Omar
Simon, president of the National Electoral
Council (CNE), stated.
This will be a space for people to reflect
on voting and decide, without pressure, what
presidential candidate and other positions
to elect.
The prohibition has been ruled since Friday
midnight, when the propaganda campaign
ended. This saturated TV, radio programs and
public spaces with offers and promises by
candidates interested in supporting voters.
The CNE top representative stated that more
than 30,000 policemen will be in charge of
carrying out the necessary operations to
keep people from violating rules.
About 10.5 million Ecuadorians will elect
nearly 6,000 public posts, among them that
of the head of State, assembly members,
municipal mayors, and provincial prefects.
