Warrant Out For Venezuelan Mayor
Caracas - Venezuela''s Ministry of Justice issued on
Wednesday an arrest warrant for Manuel
Rosales, opposition Mayor of Maracaibo, who
left the country for Peru after being
accused of illegal enrichment in the wake of
a report by the Comptroller''s Office of the
Republic.
A communiqué issued by the
Attorney General's Office said that after a
thorough analysis, Attorney Reina Morandi
ruled that the former Zulia governor showed
no willingness to submit to the trial
followed against him.
The text added that by this behavior the
accused has not contributed to the proper
administration of justice and swiftness in
the proceeding, therefore, we must adopt
exceptional decisions guaranteeing the
presence of any accused in the trial,
according to law.
The apprehension warrant for Rosales was
addressed to the Scientific, Criminal
Investigation Department, the Chief of the
International Police (INTERPOL) and the
Director of the National Identification and
Immigration Office.
