Venezuela have arranged a friendly against
Costa Rica to help both countries' attempts
to qualify for the 2010 World Cup. The FVF
website confirmed the game would be played
on May 13 in Merida, a city which is 2,800
metres above sea level.
Playing at high altitude will aid Venezuela
as they prepare to face Bolivia in La Paz -
3,600m above sea level - in a World Cup
qualifier in early June.
"As it is not a date FIFA have set for
international matches, we may not count on
all our overseas players, but we expect as
many of them as possible to report for
action," the FVF statement read.
Venezuela are eighth in the South American
qualifying zone on 13 points, four below
fifth-placed Uruguay, the spot which earns
the occupant a play-off against the
fourth-placed team from the CONCACAF
qualifying group.
Costa Rica are second in the CONCACAF group
on six points, one less than group leaders
the United States. The Ticos host Bob
Bradley's side on June 3. |
