Belmopan - Belize will
be hosting the 3rd International Conference
on Responsible Tourism (ICRT) in
Destinations to be held from May 18th - May
21st, 2009, announced organizers.
The conference will be held in the capital
of Belize, where ICRT members from all over
the world will gather, with representation
from as far as, The Gambia, India, and South
Africa.
The 3rd International Conference on
Responsible Tourism in Destinations is being
held in partnership with the Ministry of
Tourism and Civil Aviation, the Belize
Tourism Board, and various industry
stakeholders.
Hon. Manual Heredia, Minister of Tourism and
Civil Aviation and Professor Harold Goodwin
of the ICRT at Leeds Metropolitan University
in UK, will share co-chair responsibilities
for the conference.
The agenda for the conference will focus on
issues affecting tourism development in
Belize, the wider Caribbean and Central
American regions.
The meeting will deal with tourism and local
economic development, impacts on the marine
and coastal zones, impacts of cruise
tourism, second homes, condominiums and
their impact on local communities.
The objective of ICRT members is to work
with the private sector, government, and
local communities to achieve and maintain
sustainable tourism thereby enhancing the
destinations for visitors and residents
alike.
