(Surprise Downpour) In Full Summer!
After reaching record temperatures on Monday
in Central Valley, Tuesday was filled with a
surprise downpour or chaparrón, cooler
temperatures and what is normal during the
rainy season, which begins in May, are power
failures and storm sewers backing up.
The rain caught many by surprise yesterday
afternoon.
No one expected what was to come when first
the clouds got dark grey, then a few drops
of rain here and there. Then, pow, the rain
dropped from the sky in buckets.
Some areas were affected by constant power
failures. At the offices of Inside Costa
Rica the power went out for more than an
hour at 3:30pm, then again at 8:30pm and
then again at 10:30pm. Other areas reported
the same.
In Pavas and downtown San Jose, the storm
sewers could handle the amount of rain water
that was dumped in a short period. This is
common during September and October, but not
in March.
The Institution Metereologico Nacional (IMN)
- national weather service - says the heat
will continue well into the better part of
April, a transition month to the start of
the rainy season in May.
