Panama Cell Phones Face
More Competition
PANAMA - Two
companies will enter
soon the cell telephony
market in Panama,
placing the sector in a
position, from which
more competence is
expected to maintain the
status in that business.
According to the
National Public Service
Authority (ASEP), the
companies currently
operating "Cables and
Wireless and Movistar,
are carrying out huge
promotional campaigns to
attract consumers.
Extension of expiry
dates for recharging
cards and the offer of
added values to the
clients are among the
most recent actions.
Relevant balance at the
end of 2007 revealed
that country won around
2.4 million subscribers
to that
telecommunication
service, with a total
population of around
three million
inhabitants.
In 2009, Digicel and
Claro companies, winners
of the concessions that
the government put to
tender to extend the
sector's potential, will
join the area. |
