Four Militaries Died In
Helicopter Accident In
Colombia
BOGOTA, - One colonel
and three militaries
from Colombia on
Wednesday died when the
helicopter they were
aboard toppled off and
the causes of the
accident are being
investigated, Colombian
authorities said on
Wednesday.
Mayor of the
municipality of Planadas,
in the department of
Tolima (center) Wilber
Vallejo, said that
Colonel Jose Salazar and
other three militaries
died.
Salazar commanded the
actions of the Army
Mobile Brigade against
the Revolutionary Armed
Forces of Colombia (FARC).
"The people from the
community said that they
heard an explosion in
the air and they saw the
helicopter falling
down," Vallejo said
The region of the center
is one of the zones
visited by FARC because
of its thick vegetation;
it is believed that some
of its leaders are
hidden there.
Colombian Government
Secretary Martha Padilla
said that the allegedly
accident occurred in the
zone of Calon de las
Hermosas and that the
helicopter was of
private use, not a
military one.
Vallejo said that it
will be investigated if
the accident was due to
an attack of the rebels
or if was produced by
engine failures.
