Havana to Host Intl
Jojazz 2008
Havana - Some 27 young
musicians, eight in the
category of composition
and 19 in
interpretation, will
participate in the 11th
edition of the
International Jojazz
2008, to begin Friday
Nov 28 in Havana.
Jazz players, from the
cities of Havana, Las
Tunas, Santa Clara,
Camagüey and Santiago de
Cuba will participate in
several categories like
flute, vibraphone,
guitar, electrical
guitar, clarinet and
piano playing.
During a press
conference, Cuban
Institute of Music Vice
President Alexis Vazquez
praised the results of
the contest since its
creation, he expressed
he has managed to get
together a great family
of graduates and
students with renowned
jazz celebrities in
Cuba.
He added that he has
caused the promotion of
a work of an
extraordinary
composition and the
conservation of an
invaluable music
patrimony with the aid
of Colibri Record
Company and he stressed
the crucial role of the
event in spreading and
supporting an
avant-garde piano,
counting already with
more than 20 young
talents in the country.
The virtuous jazz player
Bobby Carcasses, to whom
this 11th edition is
dedicated to, asserted
the idea of creating a
jazz festival for young
people is a ratification
of the emblematic
International Festival
Jazz Plaza and an answer
to the musical richness
of the Island.
The event, to last until
Nov 30, will be
headquartered at
Conservatory Amadeo
Roldan, La Madriguera
and Mella Theater, where
inauguration and closing
gala will take place and
a great concert of Cuban
Jazz Band, directed by
Joaquin Betancourt.
The event will also
count with a theoretical
space for masterly
conferences in charge of
Bobby Carcasses, Jorge
Reyes and Orlando
Sanchez (Cubajazz) and
the Great Jam Session to
take place in the
gardens of Mella
Theater, AIN National
