Drop At Midnight
Gasoline prices drop ¢52
colones for a litre of
super, ¢46 for regular
and ¢3 for diesel at the
stroke of midnight. The
approved reduction was
published today in the
officials government
publication, La Gaceta,
and take effect the
following day.
This is the first of two
major price reductions
approved by the
Autoridad Reguladora de
los Servicios Públicos (Aresep),
the second coming in mid
December is for a
reduction of ¢152 for a
litre of super, ¢150 for
regular and ¢87 for
diesel.
The Aresep a week
earlier approved a
reduction of ¢204 per
litre of super, ¢196 for
regular and ¢90 for
diesel.
The new prices at the
pumps at the stroke of
midnight will see
gasoline prices set at
¢640 for super, ¢624 for
regular and ¢609 for
diesel.
The big change is also
the mechanism used to
set gasoline prices. The
Aresep will now be
adjusting prices every
15 days instead of the
practice of every 30
days. Fernando Herrero,
the regulador general,
says the change will
great benefit consumers
with the drop in crude
oil prices on
international markets.
With the drop in
gasoline prices, bus
fares are also expected
to drop.
