2.084 People Already
Paid Their 2009 Marchamo
The 2009 Marchamo -
annual vehicular
circulation permit -
went on sale Friday and
with no increase over
the cost of last year,
even though the
Superintendencia de
Pensiones (Supen) denied
the Instituto Nacional
de Seguros (INS) a 14%
increase it had
requested.
Guillermo Constenla,
president of the INS,
said that they did not
insist on the increase
even though the increase
was warranted.
Constenla added that the
increase in the final
cost of the 2009
Marchamo is not due to
the mandatory insurance
premium, but to
increases in other
taxes. The INS head was
clear that the insurance
portion of the 2009
Marchamo is the same at
hat of 2008.
As of close of business
day yesterday, the INS
reported that 2.084
people had already paid
their 2009 Marchamo.
With the increase, the
INS had planned on
increasing the insurance
coverage from ˘3 million
to ˘3.5 million accident
coverage and to ˘7
million from ˘6 million
coverage for serious
injuries.
The 2009 Marchamo can be
paid at and INS office
or insurance agency, as
well as at all state and
private banks.
Competition for your "marchamo"
money is expected to be
fierce. One bank,
Scotiabank, has already
come up with a 10%
rebate for its customers
who pay the 2009
Marchamo at their
branches. The bank will
deposit the rebated into
the customer's account.
The 2009 Marchamo is due
payable by December 31.
Unlike in the years
past, when lines to pay
the marchamo were long
due to the few places
that it could be paid,
Transit officials say
they will not be giving
any grace period and
will start fining
vehicles without the
marchamo on January 1.
The total amount payable
will depend on the type,
make, model year and
"fiscal" value of the
vehicle. The insurance
portion is the same for
all vehicle classes. In
addition to the
insurance, items like
propety tax,
To find out what you own
