Group To build Home in
Costa Rica
A group of local
Peterborough, Ontario,
volunteers will roll up
their sleeves next month
to help build a house
for a family in Costa
Rica through Habitat For
Humanity.

manager at Sun Life
Financial in
Peterborough, said the
team of seven volunteers
leave for Buenos Aires,
a small village located
just outside San José,
on June 7 for 10 days.
They will build a house
for a family through
Habitat For Humanity's
Global Village Volunteer
Work Teams, who help the
working poor in
countries around the
world.
"We're really excited,"
said Ryan Cornish, 28.
"It's a great
opportunity to help out
the global community."
Last night the team met
at the Junction on
George Street for a
send-off celebration.
The group has been
planning and fundraising
for the past year and a
half, Cornish said.
The trip is funded
partly through
donations. Each team
member received about
$1,000 each through
donation, Gleeson said.
Volunteers are also
spending about $1,400 to
$1,500 out of their own
pocket, he said.
"The planning and
fundraising preparing
for the trip has been
crazy," said Bobbie
Cornish. "But I've
always wanted to do
this.
"Habitat For Humanity is
a fabulous
organization."
The family that will
move into the house
after it is built have a
young boy in Grade 3,
Gleeson said. |
