No More Long Lines At Driver Testing Centre Beginning Tomorrow
The long lines to get an appointment at the drivers licensing office in La Uruca may soon be a thing of the past as the Ministerio de Obras Públicas y Transportes (MOPT) opens its "call centre" Monday.

The Call Centre will take requests for appointments from those looking to take the written exam and driving test to obtain their drivers license.

The Call Centre will be operated by Radio Mensajes which will have six operators to start with and grow with the demand.

In addition to the changes in the appointments system, the MOPT will also be using a closed circuit television monitoring system at the driver testing centre in an attempt to eliminate the bribing of test officials.

Viviana Martín, vice-minister of transport, said that the television monitoring is a result of the many complaints from those who failed their driver exam, claiming that test officials failed them for refusing to hand over a bribe. "What we are looking for is concrete evidence of the allegations", said Martín.

However, the television cameras won't be rolling for at least another three months waiting budget approval. Martín added that the monitoring will be extended to all testing centres in the six regions once the San José system is up and running.

Long lines at the driver testing centre will be eliminated with the introduction of taking appointments by telephone.
