Guatemala Holds Talks to
Join Petrocaribe
Petroleos de Venezuela (PDVSA)
and Guatemala's Energy
and Mining Ministry are
discussing over the
weekend Guatemala's
entry to Petrocaribe.
Asdrubal Chavez, vice
president of PDVSA, said
the meeting discusses
the legal terms for
Guatemala's entry to the
energy cooperation
program at the July 6
and 7 Summit in
Venezuela.
Chavez said the
Petrocaribe will help
Guatemala deal with the
current world market
prices by paying 50
percent and 25-year
facility to pay the
other half with two-year
moratorium plus one
percent annual interest
rate.
The official said the
program will help
Guatemala invest in
social and production
programs and reminds of
a $112 million fund that
covers projects that
already benefit 10
countries.
PDVSA is made up of
Antigua and Barbuda,
Haiti, Bahamas, Belize,
Cuba, Dominica, Granada,
Guyana, Jamaica,
Honduras, the Dominican
Republic, St.Kitts and
Nevis, St. Lucia, St.
Vincent and the
Grenadines, Surinam,
Venezuela and Nicaragua. |
