Transport Vice Minister
Tells Tribunal Judges
Viviana Martín,
viceministra de
Transportes, is adamant
that the court decision
last week that put the
brakes on the "interlinea"
buses that were to have
started rolling
yesterday (Saturday)
erred and that the
decision can be
overturned.
Martín is alleged, along
with several other
members of the Consejo
de Transporte Público (CTP)
of irregularities as
members of the CTP has
links to members of the
consortium that was
chosen for the
intersectoral bus
concession.
Martín insists that she
and other members of the
CTP abstained from
voting on the concession
and that court's
decision should have
dealt with only one of
the seven routes, a
route that a bidder
lost, rather than
shutting down the whole
system.
"The don't know the laws
and are now causing much
damage to the country.
Señores, know the law
and the make your
objection", said Martín
directing her comments
to the court judges.
Martín defends her
actions by saying that
the process took two
years after studies and
planning of the routes
and stops led to the
award of the concession
to an operator.
Martín added that it is
not illegal for CTP
members to have family
linked with the bidders,
what would have been
illegal is if they had
participated in the
voting and adjudicating
of the bid.
The vice-minister said
that the two CTP members
voice an opinion at one
point, but never were
involved in the actual
voting.
Martín says that tis
week they will present
an appeal for a
clarification of the
court decision, adding
that the interlinea
route was well designed
and it can the process
leading to the
concession award can be
defended.
