Guatemala Applauds Cuba Sports Aid
The Guatemalan government highlighted the importance of the collaboration offered by Cuban technicians and coaches for the development of several sports disciplines in the country.

"They have helped us a lot," Vice President Rafael Espada told Prensa Latina, and added that when he visited Havana last January, sports were one of the fields in which he requested the Cuban assistance.

"Cuba is a country that has made huge investments on human beings, which is why they have such great development in health, education and sports," the vice president indicated.

The official deplored the conditions of rural facilities in his country, where children lack a training field or qualified physical education teachers.

"How can we have school sports if we barely have schools?" Espada asked, and explained those are the reasons why the Guatemalan delegation to the Beijing Olympic Games is so small, with only 12 athletes.
